Iron River, MI - The NORTHSTAR Health System Foundation has donated $28,000 for the purchase and installation of two new kidney dialysis machines. There are six units in service. The NORTHSTAR dialysis clinic is located at 1328 U.S. Hwy 2 in Crystal Falls.

The NORTHSTAR clinic provides kidney dialysis services, education and support for individuals with chronic kidney disease. A dialysis unit opened in 1967 when the Crystal Falls community came together to raise money to purchase the first "kidney machine" for a local resident.
"Without NORTHSTAR's dialysis program, patients would have to travel to Iron Mountain, Hancock or Marquette several times per week to receive care," states Alisa Santi, Department Manager. "We are fortunate and grateful to be able to continue the mission of serving residents of our community as well as visitors to our area with essential, quality healthcare options."

"Through the generous contributions of many, the NORTHSTAR Health System Foundation is able to support health initiatives that enhance the health of our community including the purchase of needed equipment such as this," added Peg James, the Foundation's Director.
